Gluten Free Living

Having been through this lifestyle change ourselves, we understand the challenges you face. Below is some brief information on the disease, some top tips and useful links.

If you have Coeliac Disease, your immune system reacts to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. Your immune system reacts by damaging the lining of the small intestine.

Symptoms include bloating, diarrhoea, nausea, wind, constipation, tiredness, headaches, hair loss, anaemia and unexpected weight loss in some cases.

By avoiding gluten found in wheat, barley and rye (some people need to avoid oats), your small intestine can heal and your symptoms will improve.

A gluten free diet is the only treatment for Coeliac Disease and this diet is for life.

If you have any concerns you should talk with your GP and ask to be tested.

Removing gluten from your diet is a big step, but don’t panic, take your time to investigate and research, also talk to a dietician.

Coeliac UK can advise you and help you find out what is suitable for you.

I would strongly recommend becoming a member.
